Today, I went for Kendo(Japanese fencing) grading and passed my 6th kyu grade! I had to borrow my club’s bogu (armour) to participate in the grading. 6th kyu graders like me had to perform a series of proper bowing, both displaying and keeping the shinai (bamboo sword) and cuts at the men, kote and do positions of the armour. As one progresses in grade, more and more complex moves and sparring is required to display the competency of the kendoka(one who practices kendo) as well as displaying confidence and practicing etiquette. It’s a martial art that discipline human character. However, when one put on the full bogu (armour), it’s an entire feeling altogether as what I have heard from seniors. Hopefully, I get to try on the full bogu and train but it can be as heavy as 5kg! From next week, I’ll be learning the ang mo fencing!! The elegant white uniform and sparring single handedly with the coordination of the movements. Fencing here I come!!
