Wednesday, 19th April 2006, I attempted a walking trail on the Prince Henry Cliff Walk with other Kendo members at the Blue Mountains. Blue Mountains is one of the main nature attractions of Sydney where the place is covered in blue vapour due to the eucalyptus oils released from the trees. The nearest train station to the Blue Mountains is Katoomba station where it’s a small town, northwest of Sydney. Some of us spent a night at a hostel that cost A$25 per night, which was a dormitory for 4 persons per room with shared bathroom facilities. We dump our things in the hostel and headed towards the 3 Sisters, which are actually 3 rocks within the vicinity of the Blue Mountains. It had been a legend that a witchdoctor to protect the 3 sisters from the tribal battle between two tribes turned them into 3 rocks. However, the witchdoctor was killed and the sisters remain as rocks as a reminder for future generations.
We turned into tourists and start snapping pictures at the look–out point, which featured the 3 Sisters and the vast area of forests that seem to stretch for miles. After that, we headed down the pathway towards the 3 Sisters and headed down the long winding and steep staircase to reach the bottom of the rocks. I didn’t dare count the number of steps because it never seemed to end. At times I can’t seem to see more than 10 steps as the staircase steep sharply and we had to hold firmly to the handrails or before you know it, we could just trip and fall down or worst roll down the Stairway of No Return…hee…kidding…After climbing down for dunno how many steps, my legs became wobbly. And was thinking how were we getting up again? Luckily after a 30 minute rest, we continued on to another path to head up to where we came in the first place. But what greeted us were more steps but far lesser steps than before. There are various look out points along the way to make everyone picture happy and mini waterfalls that are only a few feet. It was rather disappointing but the next time I go, I want to see a big waterfall as well as tour the Jenolan Caves! After the trip, we went back to the hostel for a BBQ and drinks at a bar. The event isn’t entirely fun but still some brownie points for the effort put in to organize this event.
