Tuesday went for dentist appointment and look forward to a nice lunch even though suffering from a slight ache...I read from a magazine that below Caltex House there is a restaurant selling japanese food in a different concept. So I went to have my lunch there. When i went in i saw a open concept of shelves containing bowls and containers of food. I was abit overwhelmed by the food and luckily one of the staff came and explained how the thing works. He took a partitioned black plate and place it on a tray and handed it to me and explain i can select whatever food that i fancy at S$1.80 for every 100g. So i scanned at the range of food, spagetti,rice and all the typical japanese side dishes that are my favourite that i couldn't bare to deny...heehee..I settle for a small portion of mushroom and ham spagetti, a piece of mackeral, a piece of crispy chicken, a stick of chicken balls, 1 ebi prawn and mushroom and vege fried in ebi style. All for S$6.05. Only the spagetti,mackeral and cripsy chicken are charged by weight. In all it was S$2.89 plus chicken balls for 1.20,ebi prawn for 1.00 and mushroom and vege for 1.00....it doesn't look alot but the prices add up to substantial amount...=.='' its bit expensive. There are many other food that look quite appealing especially all the fried food but i can't select all...zzzz....so i tear my eyes away from them and look at salad corner as well as a corner set up for prepared set lunches along with a whole shelve of can drinks. The concept of picking and selecting what u want to eat is quite refreshing as you do not have to waste anything because you will definitely consumed what u selected. What a smart move..I settled down to taste my food, the spagetti was bit cold and didn't enjoy as much, the mackeral was nice because it was well marinated with a sweet sauce. I'm a sucker for sweet food. The cripsy chicken is not very oily as u often see outside and was nice too. Chicken balls were quite similar to the ones sold at the yokitori stall at bugis basement. Ebi prawn and mushroom and vege were dipped in light soy sauce before eaten. Overall, the food is ok and is a novelty for the young professionals. Oh yes, the place is located at B1 of Caltex House and its call Lunchbox. After this lunch, i was still not satisfied and bought a orangina rouge from a nearby mart, the drink's a combination of blood orange and guarana. But it tasted not to different from the original orangina. When i was about to head home, i pass by Phan Viet Deli and couldn't resist trying their vietnamese spring rolls. I once tried vietnamese spring rolls in Thailand and it was unforgetable as the spring rolls were served hot and crispy with tangling sauce that's a feast for the taste buts. Yum....so i am still looking for the taste in Singapore but to no avail. S$4.50 for 3 spring rolls in this eatery, so ex...then i try the spring rolls dipped in sauce. The sauce was such a disappointment even though the spring rolls are quite delectable. Even found my jap lunch more worth it then this. May i find the compentent vietnamese spring rolls soon..
