Today, during the hungry ghost month, people are burning nether earth money, I’m here to burn a huge hole in my pocket. After much consideration, did I come to a decision to buy a pink Nintendo DS because of a US release game called Nintendogs!!! Nintendogs allow players to have pet dogs with no hassle like the real life dogs. But this electronic dog require all the basic needs like feeding, playing, bathing and participate in competitions are present! And the dog will respond to you through your voice command during training! I will have many fun filled days with my pet! Then besides the handheld device and game, how can accessories be excluded. In the list were screen protecter, protective cover, a small travel case and stickers for the ds.
Then, I got an excellent deal for a brand new Jewel In The Palace dvd at 67 bucks!!! Outside retailing more than 100 bucks!! Woohooo….got some dvd to accompany me over…lolz..
Oh yah…I watched Mob Sister in the morning in Beach Tower at 11.30am. You must be wondering who ever watches a morning movie…but I’m one of them. Actually, the movie was just an excuse to get out of the house so I can do other stuff. As the lights dimmed and the screen came on with the commercials and movie trailers, I realized the whole cinema was screening for me only. I looked around quite often to see any human presence but only me leh….actually I think it’s quite eerie to watch a movie alone. I stopped looking around and concentrate on the movie. Then 15mins into the movie, I thought I saw someone coming in from the corner of my eye or am I wrong? Did he come in and shortly exit the cinema? Because I don’t see anyone when the movie ends. Ok, I know it’s not scary, just a thought.
Some comments about Mob Sister
Storyline was nothing special, just a movie to get yourself thinking whether power is more important than relationships. I especially like the how they film the movie. There was a Triad boss with 3 loyal followers, they were talking about disbanding the group and all felt a pity to end. Then viewers were shown how this four people come together at first in their early days. Less dialogue but more visual presentation to set the viewers thinking. I kind of like this style instead of those yester years hk traid movies where scenarios of killing my boss, I’ll kill your boss kind of storyline. It’s a interesting and refreshing.

7 August! I waited for the long anticipated day! And you know why? It’s because it’s the DIM SUM DOLLIES day for me!!!
I’m catching them cheekily shaking their bon bons and teasing the audience by tickling us their funny antics and exaggerated accents.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Audrey and I were seated at Circle 1 seats in the second row. The view was not obstructed and was able to catch any possible action on stage much to our pleasure.
PART 1
The curtains rise for the first segment. Three little cute mini Dim Sum Dollies (children) were dressed in kindergarden uniform complaining about going to Primary 1 when the 3 adult versions gracefully descended down with the help of suspended wires. They urged the mini versions to dream and joined them. The six of them sang the Dim Sum Dollies theme song and later joined by six muscular guys called the Lo Mai Guys.
The next segment call Make Me Like Her is poking fun at slimming centres and their advertisements that had been mushrooming these years. A giant poster came down with Selena as the cover girl of Simple Her (I think). Then Pam and Emma came begging the doctor (Hossan) about wanting to gain more weight because they are too thin! The doctor refused Emma at first because she’s under the acceptable weight of 45kg. Emma who was so determined to go on the Weight Gain program, ate a mac burger and was finally accepted.
Following that, is about Food Court Aunties. Scenario was that three food court aunties were completing with each other to clean the tables. And I spotted stall names like Ho Ching Ho Economy Rice and Catch No Fishball Noodle. And the catchy Food Court Aunties song was hilarious. Hey, everybody, respect your food court auntie the next time.
Next up was Pam’s solo segment as a kua kua soft spoken girl singing a sad ballet about falling out of love. There was a part where she sang that her boyfriend didn’t get her a Hermes bag but instead gave her Herpes. Towards the end, she sang more violently till she bang her guitar like most rock singers do. And looked apologetic at the audience.
Then IOC banner was carried onto the stage. IOC = Icons of Consequence. The Lo Mai guys were wearing different countries famous icons as headgears attending the IOC meeting. The headgears resembled the Petronas twin towers, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal. Then a white figure surreptitiously tried to pass the bouncer to attend the IOC meeting. Then upon closer, it was the Merlion with a spittoon who ganna rejected..lolz.. Emma came onto the stage as Vanda Ms Joaquim who was barred too. Pam as Kuchingta was kicked out of the IOC. Everyone lamented that they are no longer loved in the song, Yesterday;s Iocons.
After this, Selena and Emma appeared as best friends giving the birthday girl (Pam) a Brazilian wax at 40. A commerative segment for Singapore turning 40.
PART 2
This Bolly Dolly segment was my favourite. In this, Emma (my fav dolly with delectable and delicious voice) as a girl with many aspirations to be an actress in Bollywood and rejected a poor milkboy in the process to be famous. Emma changed her clothes faster than any face changing master in China…lolz… The scenes projected were similar to the stories of Bollywood movies, the poor milkboy rejected by the girl, saved her from the enemy and live happily ever after.
Kung Fu Hassles
Hossan portrayed as Bruce Lee who was a judge for a fight between Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon’s Zhang Ziyi (Emma) and Kill Bill’s Lucy Liu. The fighting sequence involves “flying” with the help of the suspended wires, and in the middle, Selena as the landlady in Kung Fu Hustle, interrupted them by speaking in perfect Cantonese accent and beating the other two up.
Next one is spoofing the NKF saga.
The Dim Sum Dollies were dressed in nursing uniforms and standing under a board, “National Sperm Bank (NSB)” They herded the Lo Mai guys who are patients into the scene and encouraged them to do their national service (sperms). And the Dim Sum Dollies turned towards the audience and chorused together to donate generously by dialing to 1900-SPERM-05 for 5cc of sperms, 1900-SPERM-10 for 10cc of sperms and 1900-Sperm- 50 for 50cc of sperms. Selena provided a gold cup for the guys to donate and invited peals of laughter in the audience.
The Prize is Right segment involved the lucky few people in the audience. Two participants were suppose to guess the price of the car and a range of merchandise and the closet one would join other winners from other Dim Sum Dollies show to win a Honda Jazz!
Towards the finale, the entire cast sang those all too familiar National Day songs and we on the other hand waved our little Singapore Flags with the beat. And after a standing ovation and thunderous applause, they sang an encore and the show ended with a high beat.
After experiencing the fun and wackiness of the Dim Sum Dollies cabaret musical last year, I had been an ardent fan. I loved Emma’s singing prowess and voice. Both Kit Chan and Emma’s voices are capable of complementing the music and not the music enhancing their voice. Last year, I was hesitant in taking a photo with them and this year I didn’t chickened out…heh….Hopefully, this cabaret musical become yearly national day feature!

Lately, been thinking of which University to go and which course and major. And I have a hard time choosing as I don’t exactly know what I really want. Life’s full of choices and I have to decide sooner or later. Will a major in pharmacology be right for me, what about biotech and biochem or medical science? I have heard that pharmacologist work is more of research and it consists of testing of drugs on animals. Do I really want a job like this? Can I bare to see animals die? I don’t really know… I need advice
Pharmacologist
Pharmacologists study drugs and the way they affect the body. They discover new drugs to treat disease and relieve suffering in humans and animals.
Their work can include:
*testing new drugs to make sure they are effective and safe to use
*helping to secure approval for new medicines
*writing papers and speaking at conferences
*carrying out safety tests to indicate whether a new compound could have dangerous effects, eg causing cancer.
They work with computers and other technologically advanced equipment to collect, analyse and interpret complex data.
Biomedical Scientist
Biomedical scientists do laboratory tests to assist doctors in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. NHS biomedical scientists work in:
Chemical pathology: analysing blood and other biological materials to diagnose disease.
Transfusion science: identifying and testing blood groups of donor and recipient blood.
Haematology: studying the structures and functions of the different types of blood cells.
Cellular pathology: preparing and investigating tissue samples.
Medical microbiology: isolating and identifying micro-organisms.
Virology: identifying infections such as hepatitis, AIDS and rubella.
Cytology: preparing and studying samples of cellular material collected from patients.
Immunology: investigating a patient's immune system.
Biochemist
Outside the NHS biomedical scientists do routine tests on food, water, animal or forensic samples. Biomedical scientists may also do research work.
Biochemists work to understand basic biological processes in animals, plants and microbes.
Some examples of the specialist work they do include:
*developing new medicines and treatments
*working with doctors to diagnose, monitor and treat patients
*analysing samples for poisons and drugs
*identifying, deciphering and manipulating the genetic code
*working out how biological systems work, from the brain to the blood system, the immune system to hormones
*teaching and supervising students in a university or teaching hospital
Biotechnologist
Biotechnologists use their scientific knowledge to understand basic biological processes in animals, plants and microbes. Some areas of investigation include:
*using micro-organisms in the production of alcoholic drinks and foods
*developing new medicines
*drug discovery or gene therapy
*designing and using antibiotics and pesticides
*identifying, deciphering and manipulating the genetic code
*investigating biological systems
*combating environmental pollution.
The work may involve:
*designing and conducting experiments
*making observations and analysing data
*supervising support staff
*writing reports and scientific papers and presenting work at meetings or conferences
administrative work.
Clinical Scientist
Clinical scientists are healthcare and medical experts who support clinical staff in their work with patients.
Clinical scientists:
*work closely with doctors, giving advice on the use of diagnostic tests, interpreting results and using their *scientific knowledge to guide treatment
*devise scientific or engineering solutions to problems
*develop and test new methods of diagnosis and treatment
*advise doctors on the use and purchase of commercial products and equipment
*are responsible for the management of a team of scientific, technical and clerical staff
Forensic Scientist
Forensic scientists use their knowledge of biology, chemistry and toxicology to help the police with enquiries into suspicious deaths, road accidents and fires, and to link suspects to a crime or eliminate them from enquiries. For example, they might examine living or dead specimens, examine handwriting samples or compare dental samples with dental records.
